Biography:

Manuel Ignacio Azócar graduated in Chemistry from the University of Santiago de Chile in 2001. He obtained his doctorate in Chemistry in 2007, focusing on the synthesis of porphyrins and their electrocatalytic behavior.

In 2008, he completed postdoctoral research with M. Páez at the University of Santiago de Chile on inorganic films with antibacterial properties for the protection against microbiological corrosion of aluminum alloys and stainless steel.

Since 2008, he has been awarded Fondecyt projects from Chile's National Commission for Scientific and Technological Research, focusing on the antibacterial properties of new silver nanoparticulate complexes and systems.

He is currently an Associate Professor at the University of Santiago de Chile and a member of the Advanced Materials Research Center (SMAT-C). Dr. Azócar has worked with metallic nanoparticles for the past 12 years, participating in five projects (Fondecyt, Dicyt, Anillo) and publishing 50 scientific articles (H Index: 21).

His main research interests focus on the study and development of antibacterial inorganic materials, synthesis of nanoparticulate materials and their interaction with biological systems, among others.

Research Area:

Bioinorganic Chemistry, Nanochemistry of antibacterial metals.
